School Zone Check

Enter a South Australian address to see which government school catchment (enrolment zone) it falls inside. We match the address against the official Department for Education primary and secondary school zone boundaries — so you know which schools a child at that address is guaranteed enrolment at before you buy or rent.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the catchment data come from?

The SA Department for Education publishes catchment polygons for all 125 metro government schools (73 primary, 34 secondary, 18 R-12) as ESRI shapefiles. We convert those to GeoJSON and serve point-in-polygon lookups locally in your browser.

Does a catchment guarantee enrolment?

Yes — if you live in a school's catchment, you have a guaranteed right of enrolment at that government school. Out-of-zone enrolment is at the school's discretion and usually waitlist-only.

Are private schools included?

No. Private and Catholic schools don't have geographic catchments — they enrol by application, often with sibling and family-tied priority. Only government school catchments are mapped here.

When do catchments change?

The Department for Education redraws catchments when population shifts (e.g. new estates open) or when a school approaches capacity. We re-fetch the shapefiles when a redraw is announced.
