Privacy Policy

In plain English: we don't sell your data and we don't track you across the internet. We only email you if you ask us to — and every email has a one-click unsubscribe. Analytics is anonymous and only runs if you click Accept on the cookie banner.

Who we are

SA Property Central (sapropertycentral.com.au) is a property information platform operated from Adelaide, South Australia. We are not ourselves a real estate agent, lender, broker, conveyancer, or government agency, though the platform may host listings or profiles from such businesses (marked clearly as such — see our Terms of Use, section 9). This policy describes how the site handles personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles (Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)).

The short version

  • We do not require accounts, signups, or any personal details to use any tool or read any content. Every tool works fully without giving us anything.
  • We do not sell, share, or rent your data to anyone — ever. There is no "marketing partner" list.
  • Any advertising, sponsored listing, or agent placement on the site is labelled clearly (e.g. "Sponsored" / "Listing"). The editorial tools and content are not influenced by paid placement.
  • We only collect your email address if you give it to us — either to email yourself a tool result, or to opt in to our weekly market digest. Both are optional, and you can unsubscribe in one click.
  • The only automatic data we collect is anonymised Google Analytics usage data, and only if you click "Accept analytics" on the cookie banner. You can reject it; the site works identically either way.

What we collect (in detail)

1. Google Analytics (only if you opt in)

If you click "Accept analytics" on the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-1KL1VJMVH1). It records:

  • Which pages you view and how long you stay
  • Which tools you interact with (e.g. "Price Estimator used")
  • Your approximate location (city-level only — we enable IP anonymisation, so your full IP is never stored)
  • The site that referred you (if any)
  • Device type, browser, and screen size (for compatibility debugging)

This data is aggregated and used only to understand which tools and posts are useful, so we can improve them. We do not attempt to identify individual users, and Google Analytics is configured to anonymise IPs before processing.

2. Email address (only when you choose to give it)

Some tools let you email yourself the result (for example, a price estimate or a zone report). If — and only if — you type your email address and press send, we use it to deliver that one email. At that point you can also tick an optional box to receive our weekly SA market digest.

Here's exactly what happens to your email address:

  • What we store: if you tick the digest box, we store your email address, the date you consented, and which tool you used, in our subscriber database (hosted by Supabase). If you don't tick the box, we do not store your address — it's used once to send your result and then only appears in our short-term delivery logs.
  • Who sends the email: delivery is handled by Resend, our transactional email provider. Your address is shared with Resend solely to deliver the email you requested.
  • What we never do with it: we don't sell it, rent it, share it for marketing, or add you to any list you didn't tick the box for.
  • Unsubscribing: every digest email includes a one-click unsubscribe link (and a native unsubscribe button in Gmail/Apple Mail). Unsubscribing removes you from the digest immediately. You can also email us (below) to be removed.
  • Consent record: as required by the Spam Act 2003, we keep a record of when and how you consented, so we can prove the digest was opt-in.

3. Address lookups (processed in your browser only)

When you enter an address into the Subdivision & Zone Check or Price Estimator, the address is sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to get coordinates. This request goes directly from your browser to OpenStreetMap — we never see or store the address. OpenStreetMap's own privacy policy applies to that request.

4. Live market data fetches (no personal data sent)

Tools fetch live data from data.sa.gov.au (the SA Government's open data portal). No personal information is included in these requests.

5. Web server logs

Our hosting provider (Hostinger) maintains standard web server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for security and operational purposes. These logs are retained per Hostinger's standard policy. We do not access them except to investigate technical issues.

Cookies

We use exactly two types of browser storage:

NameTypePurposeLifetime
br_consentlocalStorage (not a cookie)Remembers your cookie banner choice (accepted / rejected) so we don't ask againUntil you clear browser storage
_ga, _ga_*Cookie (Google Analytics)Only set if you accept analytics. Used by GA4 for session and visitor identification (anonymised)13 months

How to change your cookie choice

The banner remembers your decision in your browser's localStorage under the key br_consent. To reset:

  1. Open your browser's developer console (F12, then "Console" tab)
  2. Type: localStorage.removeItem('br_consent') and press Enter
  3. Refresh the page — the banner returns and you can choose again

If you previously accepted and now want analytics off, also delete the _ga cookies via your browser's site settings.

What we never do

  • Sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing
  • Run advertising networks or retargeting pixels
  • Embed Facebook, X/Twitter, TikTok, or LinkedIn tracking pixels
  • Email you anything you didn't ask for — we only email a result you requested, or the digest you ticked the box for
  • Add you to the digest automatically — the consent box is unticked by default and you have to choose it
  • Use AI training on your inputs (your address lookups never reach our servers, let alone a training dataset)
  • Profile you for advertising

Children

The site is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect their information. Property buying is an adult activity. If a child has somehow used the site, no identifying information was collected — there's nothing to delete.

Your rights under Australian Privacy Principles

Unless you've subscribed to the digest, we hold no personal information about you, so there's nothing to access, correct, or delete. If you have subscribed, you can:

  • Unsubscribe at any time via the one-click link in any digest email — this stops the emails immediately.
  • Request deletion of your email address from our subscriber database — email us below and we'll remove it (not just mark it unsubscribed) within 30 days.
  • Withdraw analytics consent at any time — see the cookie reset instructions above.
  • Request information about what we hold about you — contact us using the email below and we'll confirm in writing.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you believe we have mishandled your information.

Data residency & third-party processing

Our hosting is in Australia (Hostinger Sydney/Melbourne data centres). Some processing happens overseas:

  • Google Analytics processes data on Google servers worldwide (including the United States), only if you accept analytics.
  • Resend (email delivery) and Supabase (subscriber database) may process your email address on servers outside Australia, including the United States. This only applies if you email yourself a result or subscribe to the digest.

By using those optional features, you consent to the associated cross-border transfer. If you never enter your email and reject analytics, all interactions stay local to Australian infrastructure.

Security

The site is served entirely over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). We have no login system and no payment processing. The only personal information we store is the email addresses of people who opted into the digest, held in our Supabase database and protected by row-level security so it is not publicly accessible. Our email-sending credentials are stored server-side only and are never exposed in the browser.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change what data is collected or how it is used, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, if the change is significant, surface a notice on the homepage for at least 30 days. Continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance.

Contact

Privacy queries, complaints, or requests:

We aim to respond within 30 days, as required by the Privacy Act.

In summary: the safest way to use this site is exactly the way most people already do — visit, use a tool, close the tab. We don't know it was you. We don't want to know. That's the whole point.
